Eula's Treasure

I wanted to take a minute to share with you a painting I created this season. This is a large (one of the biggest I've ever done) 18x24 wood panel. It is entitled "Eula's Treasure".

This was created to honor my grandmother. We lost her a few years ago, but her memory is very strong in our family of women. She loved to garden, and the flowers she cultivated were a joy to see every spring. Among her many favorites were irises. If you look close you can see I added a few irises among the bounty of magnolias (I think that is what they are.....I did not get the gardener gene). Across her wings are the words " In the spring when the irises bloom I feel the warmth of her smile upon me" This is a line from a poem my sister wrote about her. I did a few new techniques on this one, including spray paint over some snips of my dried out shrubs and a tissue paper dress. This was gift to my mom for Christmas.

My card club will get to see a mini crop photo shop version of this painting. It will be January's club only card. I will post it here on New Years Day.

Prints will be available after the new year.

Warm Wishes!

I am snowed in, so what better way to celebrate winter than with a new painting? "Snow Angel"

This glistening beauty measures 16x18 and was created on wood panel. She is wrapping her winter arms around a tiny village. Sparkling snow dances in the air and glass glitter adorn her hair. I photo layered this print and added text to create a card. The original is full of tissue texture, glass glitter, stickles and metallic paints. She will join me at Artfest at Icefest this January in Hamilton OH.
If you are an ice queen fanatic like me and are interested in the original, feel free to contact me for a price on the painting. Prints will be offered late in January.

This morning I received an email from a customer asking for a print to be framed. I just happened to have a framed print left from a recent art market, I generally never list a framed print. Why am I telling you this? because it never hurts to ask! If you are looking for something to give that special person and do not see it in my shop, just ask! I have a variety of items that I take to local markets and never list in my stores. I have a few ornaments, cosmetic bags and a variety of print sizes left. What are you interested in?......just ask!
Pictured is a mini print (5x5) Christmas Angel from last year :)

Snowy Sunday

Good morning! We had a nice time at the event in Covington last night. I came home in the rain, but found a few awesome online sales took place while I was out, so that makes the night a success. My next show is in January, ARTFEST at IceFEST. I am working on new pieces for this show. This is a peek at a new painting. It measures 14x18 on cradled wood. She is nameless right now.

I have learned a lesson and I will pass it on. When someone you really do not know, but you thought was a genuine person.....gives you a suggestion that starts with, "I tried this and failed miserably....." be wary of taking that suggestion. When you make it successful, by giving it your own spin...they will call you a thief.

The Sisterhood

The countdown to Christmas has started for me. My family moved our celebration up to December 18/19, so I lost a week of procrastination. I am almost caught up, I am down to giftcards and wrapping paper needed. Today I am off to Hobby Lobby to pick up a few giftbags, before I go, a quick shop update.

I listed three new card styles on ETSY. This design is borrowed from one of my favorites clients. She commissioned this piece, before I completed it I took a photo and altered it for a card. The words are her sentiment. I can't say anymore, I don't want to give away any clues in case the person this was created for has not received her gift yet. I thought this was a beautiful thought for a sister or best friend. The orginal is sold, so this is only available as a card.

Monday Morning Update!

Good Monday Morning! I had a long weekend full of snow! We got our first FULL snow. The ground was covered and it is sooo cold! I had a small Christmas Art show this past Saturday, it was very enlightening to say the least. I move on. I met some great artists, bought a fabulous cat hat and beautiful cat magnets. I sold a little, I think the snow scared off shoppers, online sales were moving faster, so I am off to the post office today with my bundle of packages. I left my car packed, we are going to another show Saturday night and that will be all for this year.

meet Mrs Wiggins

This is the newest member of a series of fun fabulous gals I created on 8x10 wood panels. I striped the sides in black and white and used some fabric paper and Prima flowers for her hair piece. She is a little wacky, I kept thinking of Mrs. Wiggins while I was working on her hair. The original Mrs. Wiggins was blonde, and I don't remember if she wore glasses.......but I think she really liked to chew gum. I have a vague memory of that character, but I liked her name, so I went with it.
Just a few days left to join the card club at the intro price. Next card up for December is my angel Noel. The original is featured in my current article for Somerset Studio....on the shelves now at Borders :) you can read about my Tattered Angels.

Tuesday, November 16, 2010

You make life Bright:)

I am doing several 8x10 collage mixed media on wood panels. They all have this bold black and white stripe sides. I am listing them as I finish each one, they are adorable grouped together or just as cute all by themselves. I used big buttons on the flowers and walnut stained the sides. I think these are my new favorites.
This is last call for anyone wanting a custom paintings for Christmas. I am going to stop taking orders November 21. I want you to get your art in a timely manor, so please let me know if you are interested...so we will get it done:)

New STORE opening soon!

I have been so busy this week, I am just going to give you a quick update! I am in the process of opening a new webstore! When I am finished it will be another home for my SouthEnd Girls ARt. I will keep the ETSY store, but in the future new items will be listed there first. If you want to take a peek here it is-

Southendgirlsart.com I think it is easier to remember than my ID name, and it encompasses what my art means to me. I grew up in a big family of all girls. We lived in the south end of Louisville, KY. Growing up in southern Louisville, people would constantly refer to anyone from

"that area"

as "from the south end" ...... most of the time, that was not a complement. I remember a time when I dreaded the thought of a stranger asking me "where do you live?"..... as I replied "the south end".... you see the look of disdain come over there face......of course I may have read that look wrong.....maybe it was fear???? southend girls are kinda tough :)) and I was usually holding shears and their hair when asked...... :)))....ANYWAY

This south end girl creates art to represent all the "south end" girls around the globe.......fun, cute and a little tough. They are filled with hope, joy and faith. I just want to sent them out there to spread my positive message.

Speaking of which......I entered a positive affirmation contest (design a card) sponsored by Louise Hay. I have read a few of her books and have her affirmation cards, including the iphone app. I love her work she is so inspiring.

I won second place!!! I got the email yesterday.... I'm am shocked! I won a big prize package of her book, cards, journal, cd, dvds....all I can say is WOW!

Monday Morning update!

Just a quick post to start off this week. I was happy to hear we had a wonderful turnout of art buyers for November's first Friday at Creative Hands. They sent me an email to let me know three originals needed to be pulled from my ETSY shop and were going to a new home. SO..... I am back in the studio today with my creative wheels in motion.

I did a few prints on wood. I was saving these for an upcoming holiday show, but decided to list them in my ETSY store. I have two left, but will try to get more done before December. These are printed on Canson french art paper and mounted on nice wood box panels. I cover in acrylic gel, which gives the appearance of brush strokes, sand the edges and finsh in a UV top coat. These sell for $24 and make a great gift. Perfect to sit on shelf. Click here to see what is left.

I have angels featured in this months Sommerset Studio. The article is entitled Tattered Angels. If you read the article you will understand the title better. I wrote my piece several months ago, before I discovered the new spray glitter called tattered angels (so... sorry glitter people)
Tonight is first Friday, if you are in the area, see my art in the Creative Hands Artisan studio/Fusion Gallery in Bellevue KY. I have an upcoming market place in December, so check back for more details :)

Happy Wednesday!

Just a quick post- My November card has shipped and I wanted to share with you this wonderful note from a member-

Andrea!

I received my first Card of the Month yesterday. She is precious from head to toe! What a treat to open my mailbox and see your hand-addressed envelope. And, it was even more exciting to open it.

I wanted to tell you what a lovely job you did with the presentation of the card, envelope and the club! What an ingenious idea. I’ve designed and sold cards for years, no card of the month club though…

I’m so glad to be a part of your inaugural program. It’s going to be like sending myself a little present each month when your envelope arrives.

Congrats on another issue of Somerset too!

Wishing you much continued success. I love your work and following your blog!

Best,

jeanette

I am thrilled with the response I have received with the start of this project. The November "Blessings" card will ship until November 15, after that we move on to December. I just relisted the memberships in my etsy store or purchase with the paypal button to the right.

Mondate morning UPDATE!

Halloween is behind us, I hope you all had a safe and fun filled night. We had a few trick or treaters, not many. It was a little cool here, we built a fire and sat outside anyway.

I'm working on custom orders, but I wanted to show you one of my finished pieces. This one is done on an 8x10 wood canvas. Her hat is made of a chipboard bird, that I covered in print papers. I used a Unity stamp for the text. I decided to stripe the sides in black and white....I thought it needed more color and as it turned out I love the look. This one is going to the gallery at the end of the month.
If you are interested in "A little birdie told me..." contact me and I will list it in my shop.
Don't forget my card club! I still have memberships available! Click here for more details.

Find a little FREEDOM

This week I have spent time trying to catch up on getting ready for the holidays! I have my ETSY shop filled to the brim with new art and new ideas. I have over 30 card designs and nearly 20 original paintings listed.... PLUS plenty of prints to choose from! I think I will spend the rest of the season working on my side projects. I need to finish my studio, paint some chairs and get ready for two last art shows. If you are interested in any of my original paintings and need a lay-away please feel free to ask. My email is on the right or convo me thru ETSY. I can help you out.

Next up is the card club, details are in the two post below this one- This is a fun idea to send a card to someone you love every month (including yourself) I am limiting this to 25 members. If you want to wait til closer to Christmas to start your membership, just let me know after you make your purchase. I will hold off on mailing your first card till December.

This is my latest painting entitled "Freedom"

My creative string led me to a field of flowers...almost naked...dreaming of the day I will be free from my cage. I think the cage really represents what we feel every time we look into the mirror, the cage we trap ourselves in as we constantly strive for perfection. I can write pages on this topic, but I will let you interpret this painting for yourself :)

Fashion CREATES Art...Art CREATES Fashion

24x24 wood

My latest project was created for a space in my studio. I started with one concept, and moved to another. I wanted this in all black & white, which is so much harder than it sounds. Then I spent hours pondering the possible colors to add....again, I still could not decide. I eventually let go of concept one. I found my stash of vintage newspaper, and tore out the adds from 1974. These were fashion adds and some hand drawn (i think) advertisements for panties.......more like bIG DrAwers aka granny panties. I cut them into strips and grabbed the closest print papers. Created a "fashion garden" with the paper and adds. I wanted a model so instead of using one of my girls in color I decided to leave her plain and just blush her cheeks. I think I like this look, tell me what you think. I was inspired by one my favorite artist Julie Nutting. She has been in Somerset Studio several times, click here to see her art blog. I love her girls, they are so unique.
I will list this on ETSY soon, it is huge, but not real heavy. I will have better photos later...this is just a peek :)

Another great inspiration...Michele Lynch. Click here for a chance to win one of her beautiful pieces of art jewelry. My fingers are crossed...I want to win :))

Casscade the mermaid

Hello! I'm a little bit behind on my blogging this week, so here is just a quick update. First up, another beauty from the sea. This is the last mermaid for a bit, I have a couple of big pieces I'm working on so that will keep me busy. I named her Casscade.....(another sea wee name) she is done is really bright bold colors. I normally stay in the earthy range, so this is a bit different for me. I love the combination of turquoise and orange, it makes a cool/warm combo....perfect for beachy room. Click here for her listing, and more details.

Time to say good-bye to one of my favorites :) You know how it is.....sometimes the paintings you create need to stay with you. This was one of those paintings. I'm not sure why, but after I created this one I never listed it. I have sold the prints...a lot. I use the image for my business cards, and have it hanging on the wall. The original Hey Soul Sister is listed here.

Welcome to the Land of Pretending.....

a place where joy is never ending. That is the wording I chose for my latest mixed media painting.

If you are just looking at this piece you will see a castle, garden and a very cute little princess.....but if you know me, you will know I have a secretive meaning. I am going to share my thought process....hang on tight! :)

Without being too deep, all girls/women want to be a princess ( I personally prefer queen) secretly.....I know you do, don't try to deny it. Anyway, back to the start, if you are "that" girl, the reality is, you are living life with your rose colored glasses on, being a princess is fantastic, but one day (hopefully not soon if you are under 25) you will be forced to take them off and see things clearly. Life isn't always fair, sometimes love doesn't last, you may have to work and clean your own castle.... until then........ my princess.....you are entitled to everything... Love is GRAND, your garden is rose colored and you are the "Queen of your rose colored garden"

Enough of my bizarre and kind of a downer thought process. I guess recently, I have just wanted to shake a few people and yell "WAKE UP! join us in reality.....that creep is not prince charming .....be your own knight" My latest painting is just my secret sarcastic take on the state of my union :) and for those of you still confused by this CraZineSs I will move on.....but one last thing, if you are concerned about me.....I did marry prince charming, I still live in a state of bliss, and at 40 still wear rose colored glasses :) and I am the Queen of my little garden.

Painting Details---- this is a large 12x24 wood. I will list it on ETSY later this weekend. These shots were taken on my table, as I am waiting on the buttons to dry. I love the flowers, they were created with sewing pattern tissue, I white washed them and added a bit of tattered rose ink. The background is a mix of shabby pink and pale cafe latte, touches of rose and ink stain. My princess has brown hair and blue eyes, her dress was created from vintage doilies. This will look great in a cottage shabby style room.....for girls of all ages. If you are interested feel free to contact me. I will have better photos on the listing.

Stormy

Just a couple of updates, I listed 3 auctions this week! These are all of my Halloween designs. They are originals....and I only have them listed as 3DAY- I always ship FAST so you will get these way before Halloween. Just in time for decorating. I have two on my mantle and they are so cute in the candle light. I'm not one for gross creepy Halloween decor....so if you think cute is creepy too CLICK HERE :)

I did a couple of art shows this past month, I was surprised to see my biggest sellers were mermaids. I sold nearly all of one design and all of the second. I love mermaids, but I was not expecting fall shoppers to be drawn to summer mermaids, with that in mind I created Stormy. This little cutie is in two parts- 2 5x7 wood panels. I pieced her tail fin by fin and added glitter, microbeads and
gold. The background is metallic blue and teal with a few touches of shabby pink. She is adorned with tiny shells I picked myself on the warm beaches near Saint Augustine, FL. I named her Stormy....for that dark hair.
~SOLD thank you~~

Scout Magazine

Just a peek at the feature in Scout magazine. I was surprised to be asked to have my SouthEND girls appear in this very hip and trendy mag :) If you get a chance check it out, you can view online or purchase online.

NEW LARGE PRINTS are listed in my Etsy store! I only have a couple left from the last few art shows. These have white mats and will fill a wall perfectly. I have an 8x10 with an 11x14 mat of my "PEACE Angel". This is one of my most popular angels. She has a worn country feel and a scripture passage that was a favorite of my grandmothers. Welcome October!

I cannot believe October is already here! The weather has been great the last few days, sunny and pleasant :) I have just a few things to let you know, there are new prints in my ETSY store. These are prints from past works and have not been offered before. They are prints of original 6x12 paintings. If you choose to frame and mat them, they will need to be custom cut they measure about 5x11 when printed on an 8.5x11 mat paper. These are a great option for custom frames :)

I have a feature in Scout Magazine, they have a online version (I'm on page45) and a print version. My SouthEnd Girls look fabulous among the beautiful photos in this trendy publication. I ordered a copy today I will show you more when it arrives.

This is a painting in progress, she has no name. I will add a fabric flower to the headband and glitter to the butterfly. My inspiration came from an add for Lancome cosmetics. I think the name needs to to be something french, so suggestions welcome :) The background inspiration came from right out my back door. One evening, I was looking out the window and took notice to the partly bare trees scattered in the hills. The sun was setting behind them and the sky was a deep dark inky... blue with a soft glow of pink streaking through the clouds. Beautiful. I love a pink sunset.

Design a life you LOVE

Just a quick shop update, I added three NEW card prints to my store yesterday. These are prints, I had fun with in photo shop. I thought they would be cute cards, this one is a cropped print from an original painting I did a few months ago. The original went to Ireland :0) I changed the colors a bit to give it a fashionable "grungy" look and added text. This was the text I used originally, but it was cropped out of the photo. I went in and added it digitally, I think it has a twilight look. The girls have wine colored eyes and pale skin......that is vampire-ish......don't you think??? These are available in my ETSY store------->

New painting and MORE

I was up before the sun this morning. My new furry friend, who decided he was going to live with us needed to go have his "situation" taken care of this morning. Lucky for us, our county is having a spay and neuter program this year. I was able to take Enzo (new cat) to a drop off this morning, where they will transport him to a vet and have him neutered and shots for $20. Thanks to the kindness from a private donation, Kenton county residents can help curb our cat population, with this low cost treatment. I have only lived in this city for a few years, one of the first things I noticed about this area were the cats, EVERYWHERE, it was like something I have never seen before. Wild cats all over. I was not the only person who thought this was problem, many rescues were to the limit with cats. The shelter put down so many cats last year, that someone decided to help with this program. I have three cats, I did not need another, but what can you do when they find you?? now I have four. I will pick him up tomorrow, and then he will meet the rest of my cat crew.

Next up, I had a great weekend at an art show. I love to meet people and show my work. The feedback was encouraging, and overwhelming. I want to thank everyone for all the kindness. It really helps me gain focus and see what people like.

My latest project was something I created originally to add text to digitally. I left an area free, photographed it and added the text in photo shop. I am using it to create affirmation cards in the future. The original however, is too cute. The blonde girlie, is wearing a dimensional dress created with tissue and glitter. I think it is perfect for a teen/preteen/tween room. I am going to list it in my ETSY store, the buyer can have the option to add whatever text they want to the original piece. I usually paint chipboard and add the word or name to the piece. I can add a phrase, or really whatever the client would like. The only thing I cannot do, is change the color of hair, dress and background. So if you are interested in a semi-custom piece. Click here to see the listing.

Jon Isherwood 1997 'Jonah's Passage', Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park, Hamilton Ohio

This is going to be a quick post, I am still unpacking from this past weekend. I was luck enough to be invited to share space with a great new friend at Pyramid Hill this past weekend. Our tent was in front of this fantastic piece of art. I forgot my camera so I poped over to Flickr to find one :)
The weather was perfect, the weekend was fun. I will be back tomorrow to give you a better recap.
For now, I need to inventory ETSY.....sold a bunch of originals, but I still have Halloween pieces.

Party Plans

I am still creating 3d dresses in my paintings. Here is a peek at my latest, pink confection. Her dress was created with black tissue and glitter. I think it may be a little too early for prom, so maybe she is going to homecoming. She has crystals in her hair and is dancing under more party lights :)
I have not added any words to the actual piece, the text was added in a photo program. I may not add text to the actual piece, still a work in progress. I did order a few prints with the text added to see if I liked the way that worked better than adding my own handwriting.

Just a quick update, I will be at Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park for an art show. This one is a two day event, Saturday and Sunday. The weather is suppose to be nice, I am sharing a space.....come see us:)

The Pixie Cottage is having a fundraiser for Autism. A budding new artist has designed a couple of cute stamps and they are selling them to raise money. Click here to read about Sienna and her unique stamps.

Dreams We Share

This is a peek at a new painting I created this week. I just finished it last night. I used the Graphic45 Steampunk paper again (totally LOVE) This won't be my last creation with that wonderful collection. I love the color scheme of this set, so you will see it in my work again. I wanted to try something different with the background. I used a paper punch and created a wall of squares or maybe we can say a paper quilt?? I punched different elements of the paper to create a base and them added paint, ink and distressing.

This piece is 11x14 on a wood box panel, I left the sides natural wood. The girls have hair created from the print of paper. I added scrabble tiles and few left over metal gears from my last steampunk project. Available here....although it will be hard for me to let this one go :)
