This is the first of three burlesque inspired creations. The colors are deep jewel tones, bursts of gold and chocolates. She has two sister paintings, I will list soon. I have combined acrylic, chalk and aerosol to give her a modern abstract feel.

I am really into these abstract head pieces. I think it has a tribal feel, yet overall I am reminded of 1930's burlesque dancers. There is a third painting, when I get better lighting I will list her.

A little late......

I have been crazy busy this week. I have a new foster dog, an abandoned senior yorkie. My mom found her not far from a major highway, she was terrified...near blind and very hungry. She doesn't make a sound, she has about three teeth, and from the looks of things has had MANY litters of puppies. We think she was seized from a puppymill.....re-adopted out by the  city shelter and then left on the road (by some asshole) to die. This is why I NEVER buy a puppy from ANYONE---EVER. They use these dogs for money and discard the dogs when they are finished. I'm sure the shelter thought she was going to a safe home, but this is where she ended up on a highway to die.

 I will leave you on a good note. The angels at Bluegrass Boxer Rescue (link below on left) here in NKY are helping us with some of the vet cost and possible placement. She has a long way to go in healing process, but she is safe now. I named her Miss Daisy...

she is all ears:)

She will need long term care and medication. I may need to start fundraising.....but for now..........I will update you on my art.

NEW ART LISTED!

We had a wonderful weekend in Hamilton co. The park was beautiful, the air was crisp and I so enjoyed seeing repeat shoppers and meeting new people. Thank you everyone for a great weekend!

Today it is back to business, I am still deleting sold out prints and adding new prints, so keep checking. I have a stack of new card prints waiting to list.

 I noticed today that it has been a year since I listed a 6x12 original painting on wood! I started with this size, and created nearly 100. I moved on to large canvas and have worked on these for quite a while. Last week, I found a piece of wood in my studio and started painting......I miss this size! I forgot how fun it is to create these girls in this format. I am going back to my roots for a while.....and just listed this little raspberry haired fairy...

Created in fall colors, she will be the first of my fall 2012 "She Said" collection. The words are stamped from Donna Downey stamps entitled "She Said". I think they are perfect for my she she art style :)

Pyramid Hill...last minute add on

Quick show update...I added on Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park art show this weekend. I was late getting my papers in and the wonderful people at Pyramid Hill squeezed me in the show.......yeah! I know it will be a great fall weekend, I cant wait to see you all.

I will be unveiling my BIGGEST piece of all time! This HUGE 36x36x2.5 is a reclaimed canvas, meaning I painted over a commercial print canvas. I covered with primer and created an entirely new piece of wall art {ignore my messy studio}

Monday Morning Update--

I am back from the BEAUTIFUL gulf coast......but scrambling to get ready for Pyramid Hill Art show Sept 28&29. Check back for show details.

Welcome August!

I have been busy creating new art for fall. This is just a quick post to remind you Folksiders will be August 12th. NEW ART LISTED!

Well, its been a while, but I finally listed new art for sale! These are posted in both shops- ETSY and LUULLA

A couple of months ago I was commissioned to create new art for wall decor and cards....with the possibility of being licensed. This still is a possibility, but I have the originals back in my possession and ready to sell. Most of these are created on canvas panel board, (easy print scanning, which was done by Penny Lane publishing) and need to be framed for display. It will take me a while to get everything framed, so I am offering them to you at a DRASTICALLY reduced price! I have too many to deal with.....so the prices for originals are starting out at $20.00 some are even listed with their partner!

This is just a quick update! I have a few new pieces of art listed in my ETSY shop. There are card sets now available, and new pendants in the Luulla Shop.....go shop:)

I am working on new pieces for the two art shows I have scheduled. These are large 16x20 art boards. They will need to be framed to be displayed. I'm calling this grouping "Cabernet Girls".....you guessed it, wine themed! I will be at the Verona Vineyards June 9 all day for a art show. I will have more details soon. If you are interested in these 3 paintings contact me, the price will be alot less BEFORE I have them framed. You can frame them yourself and save some cash :)  I will hold these original paintings for you with a small deposit. Weekly Update

Good Morning! Today is just beautiful. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I am going to pick up my artwork from a local gallery that is closing its doors. I am so sad to see small business closing all over. I will list the leftovers in my Luulla shop. I will come back here and post the links, you will get a great deal...trust me.

I am almost 8 weeks in my yoga classes. I moved up to power yoga after a couple of weeks. I felt like I needed more of a challenge. I love going to class, my only complaint is... I am always on time. When I walk in to class,  there are maybe 2 others waiting to start. I set up. no one around. It never fails....6 more students will arrive late and they ALWAYS set up BEHIND  me. UGH. Yesterday, I had two pilates instructors behind me. Why will you not move into the huge open space and help us out?? I could use someone in front of me to show me the way??? I fell three times trying to get into this---

Anyway......no more complaints. Yoga is not about that....... I'm just sayin :)

I have been away for too long! I want to let you all know, that I have not quit on my art, it's just time to move to  the next level. I recently signed an agreement to be represented by Penny Lane publishing. I am very excited to see where this path will lead me. I have been working like a hurricane in the studio creating new artwork and designs. All of my recent originals are being done on canvas boards. They are flat and easy to scan, which is why I chose this substrate. They will be created into prints and wrapped canvas and maybe much more! Currently, they are residing in Ohio and being logged into stock. I will get the originals back sometime this month and will offer them for sale at local shows and online. These pieces will need to be framed to display.

I will be at two local art shows in June with more cards and pendants,  be sure to check back for dates and locations.

I see the LIGHT....

sounds kinda corny, I know. Today I want to share with you something that has become clear to me, if you read my blog then you know for the last year and half I have been on a self improvement journey. In all honesty, aren't we all? I mean, you don't wake up in the morning and say today is the day I am going to ruin my life!......we all strive to be our best self.
Over the last year or so, I have lost a decent amount of weight, and started a daily exercise/ lifestyle change. I am SLOWLY trying to change the way I eat, this one is the hardest for me. I have determined that I am a Flexitarian-
“Flexitarian” is a term recently coined to describe those who eat a mostly vegetarian diet, but occasionally eat meat.
and they forgot to add a bunch of "carbs" which is where I have a problem. ANYWAY..... on to what is most important in my blogging rant.
 
Everything has a snowball effect, in fact, I really didn't put the pieces together until yesterday when I  stopped to think.
 
 Last October I took that killer Pure Barre class (great workout......but pricey) I came home exhausted and a little beat up, but the next day, I woke up and said "hey, I  did that killer workout.....in public, by myself....with a bunch of fit 20 somethings"
 
The snowball started.
 
Suddenly, I think, well I did THAT....so now I can do (fill in blank)___________...with less fear and anxiety.
 
The snowball gets bigger.
 
I decided yoga looked like something I wanted as part of my life.....now,  I am in yoga class 3 times a week. I may not be the smallest, or the most flexible....but I'm there, stretching it out with the best of them. I see my progress and I like what I see. wow. breakthrough.
 
Now....what does this have to do with art???? I am an artist,  not a health guru! Get ready, here is my "light".
 
I have literally struggled with the simple concept of  "painting" a face. For the last three years, I have tried desperately to just pick up a paint brush and create the same look I achieve with colored pencils. I could never get "it" just right......... I have a garage full of rejects to prove it. Now, this may be a coincidence, but I think its deeper than that. Since I have introduced yoga in my life, I have a new found confidence, I think my "snowball" gathered up more that just  feeling  fit. It gave me strength in every area of my life, including my art. My studio is full of new art....all with pretty painted faces. Where did this come from? It  must be from the inner strength and confidence....if I can do this...then I can do that.... it just keeps building....like a snowball......
 
Where is all this art? well, I am going to keep it under wraps for now. I have a huge new business venture under way....so you will have to wait .........but,  I will give you a little peek. Have a great week...

Time for a change......

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up! I will be re-modeling my etsy shop and re-working things. All of my 5x7 single ART CARDS are going to be discontinued. I will no longer be selling them as individual cards. (If you are local I will still have a full line at my art shows.) As the listing expires or sells I am not relisting. I love creating my art and will continue to do so, but ETSY is getting expensive as many of you know.

I am excited for a new venture with Penny Lane publishing and I feel certain you will see my "southend girls" next year at a store near you. For now....get those cards while you can!

NEW ART and MONDAY update!

This past week was beautiful, the sun was unseasonably warm. We had temps in the 80's......I was outside all week in the sunshine working on this large painting. I had my ipod on (Adele), a tall glass of ice tea and paint all over!

"Sun Dance"

18x24 canvas

 I used a few new techniques in this one, I started with a wash of acrylic and layered with watercolor and water spray. I finished with chalk, pencil and more paint. If you look close you can see the background through her hair, this is one of my favorite parts.

I love the bold flowers. The color really pops on the wall, I have her hanging in studio now. I think she feels a little like a fairy looking for her wings :)
