Cherish the LOVE...

All new "wood" style art is being listed in my ETSY shop this week. These are adorable 8x8 wood  squares. They look great on the bedside table or in a group on the wall. I have added a variety of styles including more angels and faith based creations.

I went back to my old style with these pieces. Each has been collaged with print paper, The "dolls" , as I like to call them, are painted on canvas and cut out. I then add them to my collage painting and paint again. Time consuming, but I love the result. This group has washi taped sides! I think this really gives them a signature look-

I am in the process of preparing for my fall art shows, but I will add more to my shop. Keep checking back. Thank you for all your support, I cherish every sale, and feel so grateful to live everyday creating my dream.

Birds of a feather....

I wanted to share with you all, a little bit of my art inspiration. I love birds, and of course my favorite, is the majestic peacock. I did a painting a while back of a girl with a peacock dress and after seeing so many "peacock" inspired things this month, I decided to add another peacock dress to my collection. Today, I wanted to let you in on what inspires me daily. I never really know what I'm going to paint, but sometimes I will see something unique and want to use the color or concept myself. Here is one example of how I develop my concept or just get an idea. I came across this photo on my facebook feed..... A fabulous inspiration find- A GORGEOUS re- created dresser. This beauty is from one of my favorite facebook friends Jennifer Wyatt. She loves to share her artistic designs and this one took my breathe away....

From there, I gather colors and sketch..... With this design, I wanted to stay with more blues and teal. I put my  focus on her hat and hair, rather than the dress. I'm in Kentucky, its derby time, why not focus on hats??

I added the text and twinkle to my finished image.

"Why be ordinary when you can be EXTRAORDINARY"

Also, all purchases this week will get a FREE gift! Set of three no snag pony tail holders! I made big batch for myself and thought I would share them with you!

Free gifts at either of my online stores- southendgirlart.com or southendgirlart.etsy.com

I am listing all new art this week and I have launched a new website. I am super busy! You will see my new designs, and find coupon codes there!

Inspired by the violet eyes of Elizabeth Taylor and those fabulous turban hats from the 60's, I created this gal and added a French proverb. We are binge watching Mad Men, so don't be surprised if more hats show up in my work this month!

Happy spring!

Whenever I feel a bit of a creative block, I always draw Frida, somehow she will push me out of my art funk and into something new. Here is my Frida muse- and what followed her visit....

This week I feel the sun and sand calling my name.... I have two new prints. Perfect for summer, or your beach house decor. The originals are going to be framed and hung in my new beach house....I'm dreaming, but maybe one day.  I will save them until then, but as always I have them in print and ready for your summer home or even a beachy themed bathroom????

Both of these are availble in a 5x7 card or a 8x10 print. They were created in ink, watercolor, chalk and acrylic. Super fun! Frida will be listed later this week.

New art 2015

One down.....My first painting of 2015. This one has a sad story. I wanted to paint something for my dads 70th birthday. Since you know, I am the south end girl, and I paint girls. I wanted to step outside of my box and create something "manly" for a dude, or at least something you could hang in your man cave. Cars are out the question, he loves baseball....but that was not going to happen, so I sit and ponder all night. Then it hits me, why not houses? or his house? I had a great idea and off to Michaels I went. Two days later, my neighborhood scene was created...and then painted over, and re-worked again...and AGAIN and once more. You should check in on my instagram, I post most of my art in progress there, This painting went threw so many stages I lost count. Bottom line, it was not working. My dad is going to get a lasagna and maybe a shirt. Sorry dad :(
I am a thrifty artist, no way will I toss out a perfectly good canvas. My next step was to get back in my box and create from the heart. Here she is, surprise! another angel. She is full of layers and texture, with deep colors. Laying next to her, while I was painting, were some snippets from a previous painting, Those were added too. My angels always have inspiration from above, so the words fit in perfectly. Here are a few close up pictures, There is layers of paper, gesso, ink and acrylic.

My final touch was gold spray, You can see the sheen from the gold in the corner.
The words fell from table, and landed next to me (I was working on the floor of my studio). I thought, they must want to be part of this angel's story, so in the top of this painting they were added.

I layered printed tissue paper to her dress.

I really like how she turned out, sometimes you just have to give in to the process, and see where it takes you. Thank you for visiting me!
