Monday Morning update-

The weather is hot and sticky here, I'm ready for the cool breeze of fall. I worked on this fall piece Sunday. It is a large 12x24 wood piece. I did a run through of my setup for art in the park.....praying for nice weather....maybe a break in the heat???? This piece will go with me, It has a girl....who may end up an angel. I pieced pumpkins with print paper. The landscape is a combo of photo image paper, paint and stencil leaves. I will probably inscribe something on the hills, just not sure what as of right now.

We have a stray cat who has decided to make his home in my garage. I guess he likes the food that appears in his bowl every morning. He is very friendly, I think he must have been dumped in our neighborhood. I am going to neuter him and fix him up. Hopefully we can find him a good home. I have three lady cats, I'm sure they will not appreciate this Casanova invading their space.
I can't wait for the fall issue of Somerset Studio to hit the stands! I am still so excited about being on the cover! I ordered 5x5 prints (just a few) of my cover art. They will be available in my shops soon. I am still waiting on my original pieces to come back from CA. I'm not sure if I will offer those for sale. If you are interested, contact me and I will let you know when I decide.
I hope everyone has a great week!

Peace on Mother Earth

This week I finished an angel. It is an 11x14 hard canvas, encaustic. It started as a Christmas Angel but finished as more of an earth angel. Her banner reads "Peace on earth...Love to all" Long chestnut hair and brown eyes. This is a weathered blue, with creams and walnut distress. Her dress is grass green and bookprint leaves fall all around her. The paint circles are peace signs.

This piece will go to an art fair first and maybe a local gallery. If you are interested contact me thru ETSY or email....I'm easy to find :) Click here to find my ETSY store

On the COVER!!!

This has been a crazy week, but the hi light was going down to the mailbox and seeing this!!! (I was going to wait to show the cover until Somerset had it up on their website, but I have already seen other people posting it online. When they have it up I will take better pictures and show them.) The South-End Girls are now cover girls! I had no idea and it was a total shock! I submitted two pieces and wrote an article they are on page 48. I LOVE Halloween and to have my artwork on the cover of this incredible publication is a dream come true. I still can't believe it.
I want to thank everyone for the intrest in my "Hope is Faith" painting. It is sold ~~THank YoU~~

Hope is FAITH

Because you asked, and I feel better about this piece, here is a full photo. It is a large 16x20 hard canvas with 1.5 inch painted sides. Lots of layers and texture. I started with layered print paper, tissue patterns and paint. The moon trees (that's what I call them) are print paper and vintage doilies. I distressed with paint ink and sanding. Buttons were added and I finished with a coat of beeswax. I have added the text by hand to the bottom. Quote reads "Hope is faith, holding out its hand in the dark" My paper doll was created and also collaged in this piece and covered with wax. Tons of distress. Tons of texture. A little dark, but aren't we all sometimes?

If you are interested in purchasing this piece please feel free to contact me. You can convo/contact me through ETSY. I will wait to list this after my fall art shows if I still have it available. Click here to go to my store.

Hope is FAITH.....

Here is the painting I have been struggling with for weeks. Not my best, and not my favorite. I have re- painted this three or four times, and now I am just calling it quits. I wanted to do something dark, like night. I found this quote "Hope is faith holding it's hand out in the dark"....... I love it, I pictured a flower peeking out through the dark forest floor. Nothing was working so the next idea...... I thought about a butterfly, like a bit of color in a dark surrounding. Maybe..... I tried to work it without a girl.... with a girl. Girl stays- add a butterfly. Tried of trying. Sums up my summer. I am going to cover this in wax, its dark and dirty. My poor girl looks tired and ragged......looks like how I feel. Maybe if I finish this up and move on I will feel better :) UGH! Monday morning.
On a lighter note, I saw Eat, Pray Love, it was ok. I did not expect much. The movie never compares to the book. I was surprised of the change up in the stories. I liked it though.

I know there are several places I want to go back and re-read. Liz, has some very profound words, thoughts and paragraphs I need to write down, to keep in mind :)

Monday Morning UPDATE

We had a fun weekend, I hope you did as well. The heat was nearly unbearable, we were scheduled to go to a Reds game and I have to say I was really dreading the HOT hot hot ballpark. Right as were were walking in, it turned dark and a downpour started. Normally this would really suck, but given the 90+ temp it was truly refreshing. After the rain..... it was nice and cool for the rest of night. Little miracles is all it takes sometimes :)

My artwork has slowed down, I guess I have an art block. I gessoed (is that a word?) over a large painting I wasn't happy with. I covered it again, three more times (I think) I have lost count. I am going to try to work it out today, if not..... the trash is waiting. That is Monday for you.

I started reading Eat Pray Love, I am usually a little behind on popular books. When I hear about the movie, I run out, get the book and try to catch up with everyone. So far, I really find it intriguing. Elizabeth's words are resonating with me. How can I find a spiritual advisor? I will go back to yoga today and maybe I would like to learn another language?? my thoughts for Monday morning.....Ciao!

Good Morning!!!

I missed my Monday morning update, so here is a quick post just to say hello! No new art was created this week, I want to start a studio re- model. I'm cleaning out and organizing. I have an art fair at the beginning of September, so I have several new prints. They are all listed in my ETSY shop. I did finish a tiny 4x4 art block for the Creative Color Challenge, link to the challenge is on the right side bar. The color was YELLOW... I used a stamp for the words and was not real happy with the results. It was better before the stamp, oh well on to the next color. This week is raspberry!
