Hope is FAITH

Because you asked, and I feel better about this piece, here is a full photo. It is a large 16x20 hard canvas with 1.5 inch painted sides. Lots of layers and texture. I started with layered print paper, tissue patterns and paint. The moon trees (that's what I call them) are print paper and vintage doilies. I distressed with paint ink and sanding. Buttons were added and I finished with a coat of beeswax. I have added the text by hand to the bottom. Quote reads "Hope is faith, holding out its hand in the dark" My paper doll was created and also collaged in this piece and covered with wax. Tons of distress. Tons of texture. A little dark, but aren't we all sometimes?

If you are interested in purchasing this piece please feel free to contact me. You can convo/contact me through ETSY. I will wait to list this after my fall art shows if I still have it available. Click here to go to my store.

My new ArtFire store is open, Check it out! I really like the site, there are some great items to look at. I packed my original Wonderland 8x10 series and sent them off to a buyer in Ireland yesterday :) Its so exciting to have my art fly off to a part of the world I would love to visit......maybe some day (day dreaming)

I just received a bunch of shiny new postcards from Moo, these are for an upcoming art show. They turned out beautiful :) They may just be the free gift that will be included in your purchase when you shop in my ArtFire store :) Purchase ANY original and I will include a FREE gift with your order! It will be a surprise but I promise it will be just lovely!

Good Morning!!!

I missed my Monday morning update, so here is a quick post just to say hello! No new art was created this week, I want to start a studio re- model. I'm cleaning out and organizing. I have an art fair at the beginning of September, so I have several new prints. They are all listed in my ETSY shop. I did finish a tiny 4x4 art block for the Creative Color Challenge, link to the challenge is on the right side bar. The color was YELLOW... I used a stamp for the words and was not real happy with the results. It was better before the stamp, oh well on to the next color. This week is raspberry!

Monday Morning Update

I just posted four new Halloween items in my ETSY store. Click here to see them. These were done on 6x12 wood with .5 inch sides. They have hangers on the back and will be so cute to add with your fall decor.

I just opened an ARTfire store, not sure how that will go. As soon as I get settled I will have a sale there. I'm not sure if I will like it there or not. I imported all of my etsy items so right now some of my originals are listed twice and I need to fix that. The Artfire store is in the same name Andrea T Designs.
I am also working on adding prints of the 6x12 pieces. Hopefully I will work that out, for now the four originals I have listed will be it on Halloween girls, until I add them in print. I have a summer cold that is slowing me down:(......next up is Christmas.

New for fall

I'm staying in out of the heat, so I thought I would give you a heads up on fall items. I am working on four pieces that will be listed this weekend. I have three witches and a black cat! Here is a quick peek. I took this photo with an iphone app. I thought it gives my cat a little grungy feel.
Check back....avoid the heat....stay inside and shop! I am :0)

A friend is a GIFT

My weekend was full, but I managed to get a new painting done. This one feels like fall to me. I created it on a larger 9x12 birch panel. It has the wide sides that I left in it's natural wood state. These are heavy, so the shipping has to increase. Keep in mind if you are local I will be happy to let you pick up here at my home. I LOVE these panels, so I will do more in the coming weeks on this type of surface.
This little girl is wearing her raspberry beret and carrying her kitty. Text on her dress reads- "a friend is a gift you give to yourself" I am hoping to get prints of this made for animal rescue donation. I will keep you posted when I have them ready. Click here to see more shots of the original, which is listed in my etsy store. Be sure to check out my ETSY favorites- located in the column on the right......just down a bit. I found several other raspberry berets :)

still a ~HEATwAVE~ ....

We need a "Summer Breeze"...... and that is exactly what I was thinking when I finished my latest collage. Done in cool blue and warm yellows. I love the bunting flags in the background, they remind me of a summer fair. This is a large piece and will wait for a home at a local gallery. In the meantime, I will order prints and have them available in my ETSY store soon. If you are interested in the original contact me for details.

A Fanciful Tea Party-

Today we are going to a tea party, but the heat is rising here in the south, and the only thing I feel like drinking is ice tea! So I poured myself a tall glass of tea and filled it with ice! HOWEVER.....

The South End girls never miss a party, and they are dressed for a tea party. They chose the traditional Mad Hatter and Cheshire cat look. The girls left early today and are heading over to Vanessa's blog A Fanciful Twist to participate in the festivities!

Studio Update and todays thoughts :)

The Southend Girls are starting to line up! My studio is FULL of paintings, I am getting them ready to send to the Creative Hands Artistans Studio for a July feature. More to come on that, I am very excited.

I was awakened during the night, I had a nightmare. I dreamed I found a box of kittens, not scary I know :) but I have three cats and you know I cannot just walk away from helpless kittens! I must have gone to bed feeling overwhelmed by my feline friends. They drive me crazy. ANYWAY- while I was laying there awake I was thinking about my high school art class. Art was my favorite class, but I remember sitting there thinking I will never get my bowl of fruit to look like a bowl of fruit......and this is boring.

I wonder what art class would have been like if my instructor had said, make it your own! There is no right or wrong- art is art.

At the beginning of the month two of my nieces stayed with me for a week, one of them was constantly trying to make her painting EXACTLY like mine. She was so frustrated and self loathing over it. I made it a point to say, I am here to help, but art is FUN! It is cool that you have your own look.... perfection is not the goal, fun is the goal! Everyone creates differently, and that is ok.....it is what art is all about.

Now, the younger of the two girls, had a totally different attitude. She LOVED everything she did. She was proud and happy as a clam. She told me she was so impressed with herself, that she couldn't take her eyes off of her creation! I wonder why the self critic in us grows as we age? Now back to the start of my thought, what if that teacher had told me "art is fun, make it your own" would I still have grown up to be an artist that needs perfection? or could I just be blissfully unaware and happy with what I have done? I think that is why I like to add positive affirmations and happy thoughts to my collages. So when I look at each piece I quiet the inner critic and finish my day blissfully unaware:)
OK.....I'm done with my thoughts and observations for the day, back to work :)

So much rain.....

The rain that seems to never end has brought my inspiration for my latest collage. This one still needs a name, I would love suggestions. Two girls under an umbrella in a field of circle flowers. Vintage paper and buttons were used, as well as stitch rub on rain :) This will be part of my gallery show in July. It is a large 12x24 piece, I did this on wood, and finished it will mat spray.

Be sure to check out my "rain" inspired favorites from ETSY on the right.

Monday Morning UPDATE!

Just a quick post, I am still working on three commissioned pieces, they will be done today. So .... I thought I would put together a flickr album of recent art pieces I have done for clients who request my girls to look like their loved ones. I have just added a few to start with and I will add more. Theses are collages I did in specific hair and eye color, I can add wings , butterflies, or even balloons :) I will try to add more in the days to come. Look at the bottom of my blog and you will see a badge to my Flickr album. You should be able to click it and be re-directed to the entire book.

Contact me for a price and size list.

Note to the owners of the paintings- if you do not want your painting in my photo album please contact me and I will remove it.

Feeling the nature-

We went out hiking again yesterday, this time in Big Bone Lick park. We found a few bison and climbed a hill with a beautiful lake resting at the top. We had a map so there was no getting lost, the trails were clearly marked so that helped. The girls are "nature girls" they said that should be the title of my next painting. They struck a pose by a very cool tree for me to use as inspiration for next weeks work.

This week I am working on 3 commissioned pieces for three blonde sisters, I will give you a peek when I can. My latest and most exciting art news is being featured artist in July at a local gallery. I will have more news to come on that.
Check out my "nature" inspired picks from ETSY - on the right column.

LARGE PAINTING --Little elves

I have been working hard on my latest painting, It is a huge 12x24- This is the largest size I have done. I did an angel this size for Haiti relief, but this painting is a little different. I used Graphic 45 papers, and added my little girls. I thought they looked like little elves, so I added the pixie hat :)

I think they will look so cute in a child's room, they have a story book feel. I hung it up in my kitchen and it looked great there too! If you look close at the hills you will see vintage adds. This paper line is called Domestic Goddess, so it does kinda go with a kitchen if you are the whimsical type :)

I'm a GYPSY........

Inspired from my latest favorite song (as you can tell from my blog player) GYPSY HEART-

This is an original done on wood- 6x12 Click here to see the full painting

I chose a deep hue of midnight blue with pops of bright pink. She is holding her tambourine and flowers adorn her hair. I used bits of vintage lace paper ( great etsy find by me!) to add to her dress. I added glitter to this one and used metallic paints as accents. I really like this piece, I think she has a soulful look in her eyes.
Yesterday it was about 85 degrees here in the bluegrass state, but as they say in Kentucky if you hate the weather wait 24 hours.....Today it is 53 we may not even reach 60 degrees!!!
