Time for a change......

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up! I will be re-modeling my etsy shop and re-working things. All of my 5x7 single ART CARDS are going to be discontinued. I will no longer be selling them as individual cards. (If you are local I will still have a full line at my art shows.) As the listing expires or sells I am not relisting. I love creating my art and will continue to do so, but ETSY is getting expensive as many of you know.

I am excited for a new venture with Penny Lane publishing and I feel certain you will see my "southend girls" next year at a store near you. For now....get those cards while you can!

NEW ART and MONDAY update!

This past week was beautiful, the sun was unseasonably warm. We had temps in the 80's......I was outside all week in the sunshine working on this large painting. I had my ipod on (Adele), a tall glass of ice tea and paint all over!

"Sun Dance"
18x24 canvas

I used a few new techniques in this one, I started with a wash of acrylic and layered with watercolor and water spray. I finished with chalk, pencil and more paint. If you look close you can see the background through her hair, this is one of my favorite parts.

I love the bold flowers. The color really pops on the wall, I have her hanging in studio now. I think she feels a little like a fairy looking for her wings :)

Two new prints listed today!........you guessed it! yoga inspired!

The original was created on watercolor paper. I am playing around with mounted techniques for these originals. Until then, I have prints listed for you......and jewelry on my mind :)

New ART MONDAY!

This past weekend was wonderful! I have to tell you about my yoga class. First of all...I stepped out of my box and attended a class at my local Moksha Yoga.......all by myself. I have been practicing yoga on my own for about 6 months with a DVD, so I was really scared to "get out there" and try it with other people. I pushed my fears aside and went to a basic prep class. To my surprise I was the only attendee, I guess the draw of green beer was keeping everyone away............soo, I got a private class!!  One on one with a professional yogi, I felt like a celebrity! It was extremly helpful, and I'm going back. My next goal is the hot yoga class!

On to business- NEW ART LISTED!

Art Journal and GREEN special!

Happy St. Patty's DAY weekend! My ETSY SHOP sale code is GOGREEN for 20% OFF EVERYTHING! good til Sunday night! Includes originals!

Up next- Art Journal week 3 and 4

Sprout seeds of creativity is the theme for this page, I have planted a few seeds and I am waiting to see them grow. Fingers crossed. I wait.

Still on yoga. This is the theme for week 4

This page was inspired by a few images I saw on pintrest. It symbolizes Balance and Enlightenment. For me, I need to balance my life so that I can incorporate yoga into my daily routine,  even when I need to return to work outside the home. I want it to be as natural as brushing my teeth, you know, something you wouldn't put off till tomorrow....you do it now :) I weighed in this week and I have lost 30 pounds to date. I am 5 away from goal, I feel strong.

Art journal week two-

This past weekend we celebrated my MIL 80th birthday! My husband and his sister planned a beautiful event in the world famous Kentucky Derby Museum. We had so much fun spending time with his family, with everyone living so far apart, it is always nice to reconnect. Most of the family we had not seen in years, my mother-in-law was so happy, I hope it is a memory that will stay with her for years to come.

In other news, I'm on week two in my art journal. I have decided to work on a page a week, I hope it will bring me art inspiration, as well as improving my creative writing skills. This is week one-

Last year my resolution was weight loss. I have lost 30 lbs to date (yeah!) This year its about a life style change, eating more healthy and exercising. I want to practice yoga with my cardio and pure barre. This page is about learning to meditate and practice yoga. The elephant is Ganesha, who will guard against any obstacle that may get in my way. I am my biggest obstacle, I think we all are.

Week two, which is this week for me, I'm behind on the blogging-

This page is about a journey. Learning to change is difficult, not only for you but for the people around you. I find myself wondering why its hard for others to accept when someone else is successful in meeting their goals.  Quiet competion is loud in my head, I feel it. I expressed my distress in this page, I'm looking over my shoulder, but I won't stop moving ahead. When I turn the page, those thoughts and feelings will be left there....I will move on.

Up at the top left on my blog is a link to my Pintrest boards, go there and check out my healthy recipes, and fittness boards. I am 43 years old, I started exercising last year( first time ever). I really "kicked" it up a notch last October, when I started doing Pure Barre from home. This past weekend I was overwhelmed with compliments from my in-laws. Everyone noticed a change, and I know it's from the exercise. So stick with it. I hate to exercise, I have yet to enjoy it...but after hearing so many people acknowlege my hard work it really pays off. Thank you Seiler family for giving me a boost to keep going!

Oh....I've been away for too long, I wish I had new art to share. I think I have the winter blues......so I've been hanging out on Pintrest looking for some inspiration! My link is to the left, if you have found the latest obsession, like I have. I'm still working out and trying to eat healthy, see my pin board on recipes, I have tried several...including the green spinach omelet..not bad tasting, and perfect for St Patricks day.

I will be featured in Somerset Gallery in June, I just finished the article entitled "Office Party". That had me busy for a week.

Monday Morning UPDATE!

I just finished a quick card design for Valentines's Day. This little cutie is from what I call my "starfish collection" .....I know, it has nothing to do with the ocean, but I have several little girls I have designed with funny little "star" shaped bodies. This redhead fits into that group. The original is created on coffee stained watercolor paper. I draw, color and paint to finish. The text is added in the print. Great card to send to someone you love......

More pendants coming soon!
Check back this week

Soul Flower is finished!

I have a new change for 2012.... Andreatdesigns is now SouthEnd Girl art on ETSY.
{ My website is  southend"girls" art because the other was taken, but this will do.}

Andreatdesigns was my ebay name WAY BACK when... so it was time to change. I have a new look in the shop so, check it out :)

I completed "Soul Flower" and I am pleased with the results. This was a totally new process for me, no collage and no print paper.....all paint all me. I love the bold color, it makes me feel like summer.

You will see more changes in my art this year, I have big plans on the way. Keep in touch!

Work in PROGRESS......

Well, I am trying so hard to get back into art mode. The last time I finished a new painting was WAY back last September???? I think :(

I plan on taking an art class this winter, but in the mean time I thought I would work on something new. This idea came from a DIY art project I saw online, it involved melted crayons. I have that idea posted on one of my boards on  the Pintrest.com site. (andreatdesigns is my username if you are interested)

I started with a sketch and moved it to a new style "wet media" canvas.

I'm totally into big curly afro style hair right now. I'm sure its because I'm so tired of looking at my flat straight hair.......but anyway....... next up-

I used watercolor and crayons to add flowers-

I wanted the
flowers to drip on the dress, as if it were raining flowers to color her gown.

My final plan was to finish it off by melting the crayons down the canvas.....Here is where my plan went wrong- I crushed the crayons and tossed them all over the painting, pulled out the hot air gun.....and YOU guessed it....I blew the crayons EVERYWHERE! No drips....plan failed.

I must tell you, I did this late in evening, I have a cold and I was a bit loopy on decongestant. This being said, my next move.....I grabbed the iron and began to melt the crayons all over the canvas. I'm reminded of a quote from my favorite fashion guru Tim Gunn
" I have made more mistakes at 3am than I care to remember"

The wax and the iron...BIG MISTAKE.
now what?
Do I toss the canvas in the garbage?

I left it. Got up today and thought I will "make it work" (another Tim Gunn quote)

I used a Martha Stewart trick and layed a piece of cloth over the worst areas and heated that iron back up. I ironed over a few areas to take up some of the wax. It helped a little. My next step will be more paint and maybe text.

I'm calling the one "Soul Flower"
I will keep you posted on the details.
